春日大社境内「飛び火野」で見られる奈良の風物詩。
Shika Yose is one of Nara’s seasonal traditions, held at Tobihino, a grassy field within the grounds of Kasuga Taisha Shrine.
最初に、ホルンの音色が野原に響き渡ります。
The event begins with the sound of a horn echoing across the field.
すぐに鹿が集まり始めます。
Before long, deer begin gathering from all directions.
春日大社の杜からも鹿がやってきます。
More deer emerge from the sacred forest surrounding Kasuga Taisha.
最後には鹿たちが餌をもらって鹿寄せは終了です。
At the end of the event, the deer are fed, bringing the Deer Calling ceremony to a close.
鹿の生活も教えてもらえました。夏は子鹿が生まれる季節で、母鹿は野原などに子鹿を隠して餌を食べに行くことがありますが、人間が子鹿に近づくと子鹿が大声で鳴いて母鹿を呼び、母鹿が攻撃して来るそうです。子鹿は見つけても近づかないように、とのことでした。
We also learned about the lives of Nara’s deer. Summer is the season when fawns are born. Mother deer sometimes hide their fawns in grassy fields while they go off to feed. If people approach a hidden fawn, it may cry loudly to call its mother, who could become aggressive in order to protect it. If you happen to find a fawn, it is best to admire it from a distance and not approach it.
鹿寄せは、いつも行われているわけではないので、出会えたらラッキーなイベントです。
Shika Yose is not held every day, so if your visit happens to coincide with the event, consider yourself lucky.
