南海道一の景勝地とされ、数々の歴史上の人物が訪れた紀伊勝浦の紀の松島。
Ki no Matsushima is known as one of the most scenic spots along the Nankaido, and has been visited by many historical figures.
JR新宮駅からJR紀伊勝浦駅へ向かい、そこから徒歩5分ほどでフェリー発着所に到着します。熊野速玉大社と神倉神社を思ったより早く回ることができたので、紀の松島巡りの船に乗ることにしました。
From JR Shingu Station, take a train to JR Kii-Katsuura Station. From there, it is about a five-minute walk to the ferry terminal.Since I was able to visit Kumano Hayatama Taisha and Kamikura Shrine earlier than expected, I decided to take a sightseeing boat around Ki no Matsushima.
海に出ると、大小さまざまな奇岩が現れます。 Once out at sea, various uniquely shaped rock formations begin to appear.
やがて船は太平洋へと出て、波が荒くなります。 As the boat moves further into the Pacific Ocean, the waves become noticeably rougher.
岩の一部からは温泉が湧き出しているなど、他では見ることができない風景を見ることができます。Some of the rocks even have hot springs bubbling up from them, creating a landscape unlike anywhere else.
平維盛
山成島。平維盛が入水した場所とされています。この場面は、『平家物語』の中でも印象的な場面の一つです。平維盛は、平清盛の孫として生まれ、才能にも容姿にも恵まれた人物でした。しかし、平家と源氏の戦いの中で不利になり、妻子との別れを惜しみながら京都を去ることになりました。戦いの中にあっても妻子を思い続けていた維盛は、やがて戦場を抜け出し、妻子のいる京都の方角へと向かいます。しかし敵のいる京都へは戻ることができず、高野山で出家し、その後熊野本宮大社を参詣しました。『平家物語』には、本宮大社の荘厳さに、維盛が言葉を失った様子が描かれています。その後、速玉大社、神倉神社、さらに那智山を巡り、かつて華やかな舞を舞った姿とは別人のようにやつれた姿を見た人々が涙したとも記されています。そして維盛は、那智勝浦沖の山成島にたどり着き、松の木に辞世の言葉を残し、妻子を思いながら海へと身を投げたとされています。
Taira no Koremori
Yamanari Island is said to be the place where Taira no Koremori ended his life by drowning.
This episode is one of the most memorable scenes in The Tale of the Heike.Koremori was born as the grandson of Taira no Kiyomori, blessed with both talent and beauty.However, as the conflict between the Taira and Minamoto clans turned against the Taira, he was forced to leave Kyoto, parting reluctantly from his wife and children.Even amid the battles, Koremori never forgot his family, and eventually he left the battlefield and headed to Kyoto.Unable to return to Kyoto, where enemies awaited, he went to Mount Koya and later made a pilgrimage to Kumano Hongu Taisha.The Tale of the Heike describes how he was left speechless by the overwhelming solemnity of the shrine.After that, he visited Kumano Hayatama Taisha, Kamikura Shrine, and Mount Nachi.
It is said that those who encountered him were moved to tears, seeing how the man who once performed elegant dances at Nachi had become so worn down by war.Finally, Koremori reached Yamanari Island off the coast of Nachi-Katsuura, where he is said to have left his final words on a pine tree before throwing himself into the sea, thinking of his wife and children.
紀伊勝浦は、景勝地であるだけではなく、様々な歴史の舞台でもあります。
Kii-Katsuura is not only a place of scenic beauty, but also a place where many layers of history have unfolded.
