金沢1泊２日　１日目　　　2 Days in Kanazawa – Day 1

金沢は、城を中心に、武家屋敷、寺、茶屋町、市場が区画ごとに整備され、近距離に集まっています。

その理由の一つは、江戸時代に最大の外様大名として藩を守ってきた工夫にあるそうです。藩主である前田家は、徳川家には忠誠を示す一方、万一攻められた時には金沢城を守れるよう、工夫して城下町を整備してきました。その結果として政治、経済、文化などさまざまな面で栄え、今も魅力ある城下町として人々を引きつけています。そんな金沢を巡ってみました。

Kanazawa is a castle town where the castle, samurai district, temple district, teahouse district, and marketplace are all arranged in separate areas within walking distance of one another.

One reason for this layout dates back to the Edo period. As the Maeda clan ruled Kaga Domain, the largest domain governed by an tozama (outside) daimyo, they needed to balance loyalty to the Tokugawa shogunate with preparations for the possibility of an attack.While demonstrating their loyalty to the Tokugawa family, the Maeda clan also carefully planned the castle town so that Kanazawa Castle could be defended if necessary. This thoughtful design helped the city flourish politically, economically, and culturally. Today, Kanazawa remains one of Japan’s most attractive castle towns.
