燈籠は寺や神社の灯りですが、燈籠を神様に奉納して、お願いを叶えてもらえるよう祈願することもあります。春日大社の燈籠にも、神様への祈願の言葉が書かれています。その中には、第二次世界大戦中に奉納され「武運」と書かれたものもあり、生きて故郷に帰りたいという切実な願いが伝わってきました。春日大社には平安時代からの燈籠があるそうで、奉納した人たちは今は亡くなった人も多いですが、祈りを込めた燈籠だけは今も残っています。
Lanterns are lights used at temples and shrines, and they are sometimes offered to the gods to make wish come true. The lanterns at Kasuga Taisha Shrine also have words of prayers to the gods written on them. Among them is one that was offered during World War Ⅱ and has the words “good fortune in war” written on it, conveying a heartfelt wish to return home alive. It is said that Kasuga Taisha Shrine has lanterns dating back to the Heian period, and although many of the people who donated them have now passed away, the lanterns filled with players remain to this day.
