つぼ湯の横から、大日越ルートで熊野本宮大社へ向かいます。朝9時の大日越は、ほとんど人がいません。少し怖さを感じるほどの静けさですが、それでもおすすめしたいルートです。
From beside Tsuboyu, I headed toward Kumano Hongu Taisha via the Dainichigoe route.At 9:00 AM, there were almost no people on the trail.It felt a little intimidating because of the silence, but I would still recommend this route.
歩き始めてすぐに、思った以上に険しい道が続きます。途中、引き返そうかと思うほどの急な登りもありました。それでも驚くのは、この道がとてもきれいに整備されていることです。私たちが熊野古道を歩くことができるのは、伝統を陰で支えている人たちのおかげなのだと感じました。
Soon after starting, the trail became steeper than I expected.At one point, it was so difficult that I even considered turning back.Even so, what impressed me most was how well the path was maintained.Despite being such a rugged mountain trail, it was carefully cleaned and preserved.I realized that we can enjoy walking the Kumano Kodo because there are people quietly protecting and maintaining this tradition.
途中には「鼻かけ地蔵」と呼ばれるお地蔵様があります。無実の罪で鼻を削がれた男の代わりに、このお地蔵様が鼻を削がれたという言い伝えが残っています。
Along the way, there is a statue known as the “Hanakake Jizo” (Nose-cut Jizo).It is said that this statue lost its nose in place of a man who was wrongly punished.
また、「南無阿弥陀仏」と刻まれた大岩もあり、信仰の痕跡が随所に見られます。このような信仰の跡が、これほど険しい山の中に残されていることは、合理的な理由だけでは説明できません。やはり祈りというものは、人間にとって本質的に大切なものなのだと実感しました。
There is also a large rock engraved with the words “Namu Amida Butsu.”Seeing traces of faith like these at the top of such a steep mountain cannot be explained simply by practicality or logic.It made me feel that prayer is something deeply essential to human beings.
やがて道は下りに変わります。下りも決して楽ではありませんが、少し進むと視界が開け、森の向こう側が見えてきます。木々の間から、大斎原の壮大な河原が姿を現した瞬間、思わず息をのみました。地図を見なくても、直感的に「ここが聖なる大斎原だ」と分かるほど、特別な空気が漂っています。
From here, the trail becomes a descent.The downhill section is also quite challenging, but after walking a bit further, the view begins to open up beyond the forest.
When I saw the vast riverbed of Oyunohara through the trees, I was deeply moved.Even without looking at a map, I could instinctively feel that this was the sacred Oyunohara—the atmosphere itself made it clear.
途中の民家から親切な方が出てきて、大斎原までの道を教えてくださいました。
今回の熊野古道の旅では、旅人への思いやりと聖地を守る気持ちを持った方々に何度も出会いました。
Along the way, a kind local resident came out from a nearby house and kindly showed me the way to Oyunohara.During this journey on the Kumano Kodo, I encountered many people who showed kindness to travelers and a deep respect for preserving this sacred place.
