645年、奈良県桜井市に開かれた、安倍氏の寺。知恵を授けてくれる文殊菩薩が御本尊です。そのためか、安倍氏からは、安倍仲麿、安倍晴明、安倍晋三など、多くの著名人が出ています。
A temple of the Abe clan opened in Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture in 645. Manjushri Bodhisattva文殊菩薩, who gives wisdom, is the principal image. Maybe that’s why there are many famous people from the Abe clan, such as Abe Nakamaro安倍仲麿, Abe Seimei安倍晴明, and Shinzo Abe安倍晋三.
桜井駅から20分ほど歩きます。It takes about 20 minutes to walk from Sakurai Station.
ご本尊は、獅子に乗った文殊菩薩ですが、2025年5月まではいつもより間近で拝観することができます。本堂の耐震工事のためだそうです。文殊菩薩は、知恵を授けてくれる仏様なので学業成就などにご利益があるとされています。また、快慶作のこの文殊菩薩は、芸術品としても価値が高いです。
The main image is Manjushri Bodhisattva on a lion, but you can see it more closely than usual until May 2025. It is said that it is for the earthquake-resistant construction of the main hall. Manjushri Bodhisattva is a Buddha who bestows wisdom, so it is said to be beneficial to academic achievement. In addition, this Manju Bodhisattva made by Kaikei快慶 is also valuable as a work of art.
本堂では、時間が合えばお坊さんのお話が聞けます。とても話し上手なお坊さんで、お寺の見どころや歴史を解説してくださいます。
In the main hall, if the time is right, you can listen to the monk’s story. He is a very talkator monk and he explains the highlights and history of the temple.
本堂で売っている赤いお札は、厄除けのお札として全国的にも有名だそうです。
It is said that the red amulets sold in the main hall are famous as amulets to avoid bad luck.
浮御堂。拝観方法がユニークで、お札をもらって、浮見堂を7周回って厄落としをします。
Ukimido. The viewing method is unique, and it is believed that you can get off bad luck, if you get amulets and go around Ukimido 7 times.
右は、安倍仲麻呂の歌碑。安倍仲麻呂は、奈良時代の遣唐使で、日本から海を渡り、中国の唐の都で皇帝玄宗のもとで活躍しました。安倍仲麻呂の代表的な和歌

天の原ふりさけみれば春日なる三笠の山に出でし月かも
故郷奈良から遠く離れた唐で天をふり仰げば、故郷の春日の三笠山に出たのと同じ月が出ている、という歌です。故郷から遠く離れ、故郷で見たのと同じ月を見て、故郷を思う気持ちが詠まれています。阿倍仲麻呂は、唐にいるとき、日本への帰国を望みましたが、容易には許されず、また、帰国の際に船が難破して帰ることができず、73歳で唐で亡くなりました。
It is a poem that says, looking up to the sky in Tang, which is far from his hometown Nara, there is the same moon that he had seen on Mt. Mikasa in his hometown of Kasuga in Nara. Far away from his hometown, he saw the same moon that he had seen in his hometown, and he felt about his hometown. When Abe Nakamaro was in Tang, he wanted to return to Japan, but it was not easily allowed, and when he tried to return home, his ship was wrecked and he could not return, and he died in Tang at the age of 73.
左の灯籠は、安倍晋三の寄贈。世界平和を祈ると書いてあります。

白山堂は、縁結びのご利益があるそうです。Hakusando has the benefit of matchmaking.
晴明堂に向かう坂道の前に、合格門があります。通ると試験に通りそうです。この上に、有名な陰陽師、安倍晴明誕生の地があります。
There is a passing gate in front of the slope to Seimei-do. If you pass, you might pass the exam. On top of this, there is the birthplace of the famous Onmyoji,（fortune teller？）, Abe Seimei.
晴明堂。安倍晴明が生まれた場所がこの辺りにあったそうです。
Seimei-do. It is said that the place where Abe Seimei was born was around here.
パンジーの花で描いた「み（巳）」。今年は巳年（蛇）なので、蛇の絵になっています。毎年、干支の絵が描かれるそうです。
“Mi (み 巳snake)” drawn with pansy flowers. This year is the year of the snake (Mi), so it is a picture of snakes. Picture of the zodiac is drawn every year.
ウォーナー博士供養塔。ウォーナー博士は、京都や奈良の文化財を戦争被害から守った人とされています。石碑横の石に「ウォーナーのオジサンありがとう」と書いてあり、慕われていたことが伝わってきます。
Dr. Warner memorial tower. Dr. Warner is said to be the person who protected the cultural properties of Kyoto and Nara from war damage. “Thank you, Mr. Warner,” is written on the stone next to the stone monument, and it is seen that he was adored.
