

長谷寺と言えば「花の寺」と言われ、特に牡丹が有名です。回廊の両脇の牡丹が有名ですが、5月上旬に行ったところ、回廊両脇の牡丹はすでに花がなくなっていて、回廊の中に牡丹が植えてありました。
Hasedera Temple is known as the “Temple of flowers”, and is especially famous for its peonies. The peonies on both sides of the corridor are famous, but when I went there on early May, the peonies on both sides of the corridor had already lost their flowers, and peonies were planted inside the corridor.

日本の古い言葉で美しい女性を例える時に、立てば芍薬、座れば牡丹、歩く姿は百合の花という言葉があります。また、牡丹は「花の王」とも言われ、高貴な美しさが好まれてきました。
