神籬ひもろぎ　Himorogi

古代の日本で、神様が宿るとされた場所を、神籬と言います。多くは自然の岩や木が神籬とされ、古代の日本人が、大自然の中に神様を感じていたことが分かります。古代の日本人にとって大自然は、生きるのに必要な水や植物、動物を授けてくれる存在であり、人々は恵みを授けてくれる自然を神様として信仰したそうです。

In ancient Japan, places where it was believed that gods resided were called himorigi (神籬). Many of these were natural features such as rocks or trees, which were regarded as sacred. This shows that the ancient Japanese people felt a deep sense of the divine in nature. For them, the natural world was a source of life, providing essential things like water, plants, and animals. People believed that nature, which bestowed these blessings upon them, was sacred and worshiped it as a form of god.
