戦功を賞賛されていたころには、義経を慕う女性が多くいましたが、頼朝から追討される身となった義経からは、ほとんどの女性が離れていきました。
During the time when Yoshitsune was being praised for his military achievements, he had many women who admired him. However, as Yoshitsune became a target of pursuit by Yoritomo, most of the women distanced themselves from him.
その中で、静という白拍子（舞や歌で身をたてていた女性）だけは、義経から離れませんでした。
Among them, there was one woman named Shizuka静, 白拍子shirabyoushi,a dancer and singer, who remained by Yoshitsune’s side and did not leave him.
義経一行は、船中で嵐に遭うなどの苦労をしながら、吉野山にたどり着きました。義経の家臣の弁慶たちは、女の身である静は、旅の足手纏いになると考えました。静は義経から離れたくないと思いながらも、一行から離れました。
Yoshitsune and his companions faced various hardships, including encountering a storm at sea, but they eventually reached Mount Yoshino. Yoshitsune’s retainers, including Benkei, thought that Shizuka, being a woman, would only slow down their journey. Shizuka wanted to remain steadfast by Yoshitsune’s side but at last left him.
このエピソードは、能『船弁慶』や歌舞伎『義経千本桜』のもとになっています。
This episode has served as the basis for Noh theater play “FunaBenkei” and Kabuki play “Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura.”
