奈良時代には、瑠璃色のガラス杯などがペルシアからシルクロードを通って伝わり、今も正倉院に収められています。おそらく奈良時代の人々にとって、遠い国から来た瑠璃色は、特別な色だったでしょう。

奈良に残る国宝などの古い建物の多くは、今は色が落ちていますが、最初はカラフルに彩られていたと言われています。そんな古都を彩る瑠璃色の光、とても綺麗でした。伝統と長い歴史を感じさせる、色の少ない寺院も素敵ですが、光に彩られた寺院も良かったです。
