Maple leaf-shaped sweets called “Momiji Manju,” a popular treat in Miyajima known for its autumn foliage.

There is a tale that suggests the beginning of Momiji Manju originates from a comment made by the first Prime Minister of Japan, Hirohumi Ito, who likened the hands of a teahouse girl to autumn leaves. However, the veracity of this story is not confirmed.

“Ueno,” renowned for its grilled eel rice, served a Chirashi Zushi. The image is not clear as it was a frozen one, but it contained shiitake mushrooms, grilled eel, and vegetables, and it was very delicious. Unlike the usual grilled eel rice, which typically includes only pickled vegetables, the Chirashi Zushi is more nutritious with the inclusion of various vegetables.
